Welcome to the website of the Commissioner for Standards.

The Commissioner is an independent person appointed by the Northern Ireland Assembly.

His role is to carry out thorough, fair and transparent investigations into complaints about the behaviour of Ministers and MLAs in relation to their respective codes of conduct and to encourage and promote high ethical standards in public life. With effect from 21st September 2026, the Commissioner has additional responsibility for receiving all complaints made under the Assembly’s Unacceptable Behaviour Policy.
